Recipes from my Heritage: Tea and Scones with Mock Devonshire Cream

My grandfather was born in England, the son of a coal miner.  When he was four, he immigrated with his parents and siblings to the United States in search of a better life.

The family settled in West Virginia where my great grandfather once again resumed work as a coal miner while Great Grandma kept a tidy house and enjoyed entertaining company.  I’m told that as soon as she heard the latch at the back gate, the tea kettle was immediately on the stove to make ready for whomever it was who had stopped by.  While I never knew her,  I have come to deeply appreciate the very British tradition of tea and scones she passed on to her future generations.

This week I shared the recipe here over at Gnowfglins.  I hope you’ll pop over, take a look, and share some family memories of your own.

  1. This makes me smile for it was definitely a scone weekend around here. :-) I love Mock Devonshire cream too, though I’d dearly love to try the real thing one day. :-)
